My journey started at MPG Fitness in the Spring of 2013. I had just had my third child and was ready to get back into “pre-baby” shape when I decided to see how the gym down the street looked. I went into MPG one afternoon and signed up on the spot because I was immediately blown away by the staff, equipment and possible classes I could start taking. Having worked out in “traditional gyms” since I was a teenager, I was pleasantly surprised by the equipment I had never seen before such as the Move Strong and TRX bands. Although I had no idea how to use them, I was eager to learn.

My journey started at MPG Fitness in the Spring of 2013. I had just had my third child and was ready to get back into “pre-baby” shape when I decided to see how the gym down the street looked. I went into MPG one afternoon and signed up on the spot because I was immediately blown away by the staff, equipment and possible classes I could start taking. Having worked out in “traditional gyms” since I was a teenager, I was pleasantly surprised by the equipment I had never seen before such as the Move Strong and TRX bands. Although I had no idea how to use them, I was eager to learn.

For the first month I went through traditional workouts on my own (30-45 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weightlifting), but before long I found myself wanting to join in the small classes that were taught daily. I was not only intrigued by the different workouts that were being done, but by the one-on-one time each member was given during these classes. Every trainer took the time to adjust and encourage each member of the class throughout every workout while explaining why the adjustment was necessary in order to get the most out of the movement. It was apparent that the trainers were not just doing their job, but wanted to educate members on workouts, body movement, body placement, posture, mindfulness of one’s body and how it is used as well as healthy lifestyles and diet choices. In short, they wanted each member to be their best self. After being an athlete in high school and staying in shape for most of my life, I was shocked and how little I actually knew about my body and how it is supposed to move and how many of those movements I was doing incorrectly. It was during these classes that I learned that sometimes the smallest or “easiest looking” exercise can be the most challenging. By taking the classes, getting educated and making small adjustments to many of my exercises, I not only started to see weight loss and most of my pesky aches and pains disappear, but I was gaining muscle and confidence in myself and my abilities.

A year after I joined I decided to get a personal training package in order to focus on my problem areas (a bad knee, tights glutes and hamstrings, trigger points, flexibility, and overall posture). This was one of the best decisions I made! My trainer was able to focus on me, what I needed to work on, and adjust each session to the specific needs I had that week/day. There were times I was so tight that I could not do an exercise properly, so the trainer stopped what we were doing and rolled, massaged or trigger pointed the area that needed it. Who knew how bound I was?! Every single session I learned something new about my body, an exercise or my diet. I would highly recommend a personal training package to everyone!

For the last couple of years I have taken the 5 am class as often as I can. These classes, like all of them, never disappoint and continue to push me. Even after 3+ years I have never gone through the same class twice. The trainers are constantly educating themselves in order to keep everything fresh and new to ensure their members are motivated to take a class where they are learning and being pushed outside of their comfort zone every single time. The trainers will also differentiate exercises in order to meet the needs of individual members to ensure they get the best out of you while adhering to your personal limits at that time. On top of that, a few times a year Anthony asks members what classes and times we like best to ensure that his members are being heard and receiving that services that they want.
Personally, I could not be happier with MPG Fitness, its trainers and the members that I have met! As I mentioned, I started at MPG to help me to get my “pre-baby” body back. I have done that and more. By changing my lifestyle to incorporate a clean, healthy diet and continuing to exercise, not only am I in the smallest size clothes I have ever been in, but I am leaner, more cut, and most importantly, stronger, than I have ever been in my life. This change that has been physical, mental and emotional, is evident to anyone who knows me. All the physical aches and pains that I had before are now gone and are replaced with that soreness that only comes from physically challenging yourself. The strength and knowledge I have gained from working with Anthony and my fellow members, while being dedicated to a better me over these last few years, are invaluable and life-changing. I cannot thank Anthony and MPG Fitness enough for helping me, guiding me, and pushing me. There is no way I would be the person I am today without MPG Fitness. Thank you for helping me be the best I can be and for believing in me even during the times I might not have believed in myself.
